A) PREFACE
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
or Mahathma Gandhi (refered here as Gandhi) was born on October 2,
1869 in Porbandar, India. He became one of the most respected
spiritual and political leaders of the 1900's. Gandhi helped to free
the Indian people from British rule through nonviolent resistance,
and is honored by Indians as the father of the Nation. He died on
January 30, 1948.His
historical march started from Gandhi as a leading layer with the
prestigious “Bar at Law degree” from England. He was a practicing
layer from 1893 to 1914 in the British controlled South Africa. He
was abused by the British both in his profession, life and when he
attempted to claim his rights as a British subject. Soon he saw that
all Indians suffered similar treatment both in South Africa as well
as in India. Gandhi stayed in South Africa for 21 years working to
secure the rights for Indian people, But his attempt to pool the
will and support of the Indians in South Africa failed, because no
expatriate Indian was ready to antagonise the British rulers, and
lived/worked to satisfy the basic needs (Food, Clothing & shelter).
This became a
direct personal challenge and an indirect enmity against the
British rules, who were attempting to control the total world, under
the theme “Sun never sets in the British territory”.
LESSON
01 – The foundation for the independence approach of
Gandhi were more Social and Personal grounded than Economic
oriented.
=================================================
B) INDIAN
INDEPENDENCE - BACKGROUND
In 1905, Lord Curzon, the Viceroy
and Governor-General of India (1899-1905), ordered the partition of
the province of Bengal for improvements in administrative efficiency in that huge and populous
region. The partition created two provinces: Eastern Bengal & Assam,
with its capital at Dhaka,
and West Bengal with its capital at
Calcutta (which also served as the capital of British India).
It was an
ill-conceived and hastily implemented action. This division outraged
all the Indian population, because not only the government failed to
consult Indian public opinion, but the action also appeared to
reflect the British resolve to "divide and rule."
LESSON 02 – British
rulers in South Africa and India strategically used the social
wedges as a tool to utilise the occupied territory and people for
the economic gains of Britain and their people. Any Psyco-social
management action on the public can over power the management
decision of any ruler, however powerful they may be.
=================================================
Gandhi, who failed to consolidate the will and power of the
people in South Africa, came to India to complete his mission and
free the Indians from the British rule. He created the Indian
National Congress as a setup to fight and go forward. Widespread
agitation resulted in the streets and in the press. The Congress
advocated boycotting British products under the banner of Swadeshi.
This Movement, part of the Indian independence, was a successful
economic strategy to remove the British Empire from power and
improve economic conditions in India through the principles of
self-sufficiency and domestic efforts. Strategies of the Swadeshi
movement involved boycotting British products and the revival of
domestic-made products and production techniques. But the concepts
of Management and Productivity relating to the organisation of
domestic supply sources, were completely absent.
LESSON 03 - A
social freedom movement develops attractive domestic economic
concepts. But without any thought, methodology or any plan to create
the resources and inputs to achieve the same.
=================================================
C) CONCEPTS OF
SWADESHI
Mahathma Gandhi, the founder leader
of the Indian Independence, described Swadeshi as a strategy with a
key focus on the soul of Swaraj or Self Rule. He said “The true
India is to be found not in its few cities, but in its seven hundred thousand
villages. If the villages perish, then the
India will perish too”. He gave a
call to the consumer to be aware of the hideous economic result by
supporting British industries that pump out the Indian wealth to
Britain, resulting in creating poverty, harm to workers, humans and
other creatures in India.
It is interesting to find that the "Gandhian Ideal" of Swadeshi
movement concept is an exact replica of Dr.VSRS's concepts of
Socio-Economic Development in a Geometric Model. The Swadeshi
essentially portrays the bi-circular concept of - Domestic source
for Domestic investment and Domestic Technology to be manned by the
Domestic Labour force.
SEE – SED BY DRVSRS
D) SIGNIFICANCE OF
SWADESHI
"Gandhian
utopia" was a dream of a future India, perfected on the basis of
its ancient culture, supported by a historical set of cultural
meanings, and rooted in the ideal of an "Essential India". Critical
elements of Gandhi's vision included -
Sarvodaya -
Spiritual well-being for all and individual discipline (Especially
in matters like consumption such as vegetarianism, self discipline
etc..) as the needs for underpinning of national strength; Swadeshi
inducted Self reliance first.
Satyagraha -
Non-violent resistance. Tolerance or non passive resistance or
pacifism, but a principled rejection of violence of moral strength;
Trusteeship -
The rich are trustees of their wealth and it is expected to do good
of all. Bread labour
- Opposition to de-humanising technology.
Panchayat Raj - The village as central institution,
with government by consensus of rural leaders. The major
theoretical issue tackled in Gandhian Utopia is the relationship
between individuals, culture and history. It emphasized the role of
individuals in cultural change. Associated with this are
contingencies of Authorship and Authority. In a debate of the "Great
men versus Cultural determinism", the Authority is seen as a
dominant factor in the anthropological (social relationship)
tradition. In contrast Gandhi assumed "Neither an integral
Individual nor a Determined culture", and argued that "Individual
and Culture are constantly interlinked by confrontation and
struggle".

Experiments with Culture" by Richard G. Fox. Beacon Press 1989.

LESSON 04 –
Social freedom inducts domestic orientation. Opens up the past
cultural heritages. Pools the people and their thoughts towards
self development. But a strategic methodology to achieve the same
are absent.
=================================================
E) POETIC
PROPAGANDA
During this period, a nationalist poet Rabindranath Tagore (1861
–1941. Nobel Laureate in Literature of 1913 for his works "The
Gardner" and "Gitanjali") penned and composed a song roughly
translated into English as "In the soil of Bengal, the water of Bengal should be
considered holy and hallowed (sacred)... ". He himself led people to
the streets singing the song. The Congress-led the boycott of
British goods. This supported by the mass appeal of Tagore’s songs,
it was so successful that it unleashed the strength of the British
forces and the Monarch.
LESSON 05 –
Literature, the inner spirits and social freedom thoughts go
together. But how to get economic prosperity, rule and manage the
nation after independence are completely absent.

=================================================
F)
AFTER EFFECTS
The social independence movement relieved the people from
the chains of foreign bondage. After the independence on 15th
of August 1947, Gandhi recommended the dismantling of the “Congress”
and handover the country to rule themselves !!!. But the
independent people never had any vision or thought of any
methodology to rule and manage themselves. The dominant factors were
the essential needs, namely the food, shelter and clothing. People
with power (physical, mental and economic) assumed that the nation
belongs to them. They framed the ruling guidelines as they thought
as advantageous to them. This lead the country into a
under-developed and developing cyclical-loop, without any way to
breakeven towards a developed nation.
LESSON 06 – Social
freedom, not based on economic development orientation and a blind
belief that people can rule themselves leads to apartheid, unsafe
alliances, export of local talents to developed nations and a
looping poverty.
SHOPPING
=================================================--This
is supported by the Indian economic scene today (after 60 years of
independence) – Discrimination of people by caste, religion, sex
etc.. and providing reservations in jobs and commodity distribution,
on that basis (Note – Apartheid is eradicated from all over the
world, but it still exists and grows in India !!); Aligning with
communist USSR just after independence based on geographic and mass
appeal communist principles (which has shattered in the world
today); Mass development of local talents with hi-fi education
centres, without knowing how to utilise them domestically,
resulting in their mass immigration to the developed nations; Not
able to reach a self sufficiency in food, water, shelter and
clothing due to the uncontrollable domestic population growth as
well as unproductive spending by those in power.

=================================================
G) BOTTOM LINE
Unilateral social independence leadership of Gandhi in
India, resulted only in an economic chaos. It handed over the
nation into the hands of unsocial elements and un-economic
rulers to waste and dwindle the unaccountable wealth and talents in
India. In the past 60 years after independence, one full generation
of people has been turned over. Now India is ruled by people who do
not even have any least feeling of the efforts, agony and selfless
power put in by Gandhi and his fellow men. Rather they misuse the
name of Gandhi to mislead the people and keep them continually in
power. The Gandhian social freedom is enjoyed as a “free economic
gift” by the current people in power and as a “free wealthy bonanza”
by the future population of India. What is the avenue break this
trend and get into a real economic prosperity ???
LESSON 07 –
Management and Productivity (Both Government and Private) concepts
and evaluation should be with reference to Socio-Economic
Development units than unilateral quantum units. Intangible
(Psychological, Social, Environmental, International and Universal)
components should be given more importance than physical factors.
Domestic investments should be from Domestic Savings. Domestic
technology (Latest moderated to suit local environments) should be
manned by Domeatic Manpower.

Socio-Economic Development. SOMA = Social Management.
H) CONTRA STRUGGLE
The economic freedom struggle of Japan, after the World War
2 (1939 to 1945) provides a contradictory scene. It was an economic
struggle rather than a social struggle. You could see how Japan is
economically dominating the world with “people of productivity” in

RURAL SWADESHI
Gomathy Sankar (1873
- 1951), a native Villager of Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli District,
Tamil Nadu, was attracted by the principles of Mahathma Gandhi and
Tagore. He pioneered to use the Swadeshi principle in his native
district as a two edged tool to accelerate the pace of domestic
Socio-Economic development as well as to promote the spirit of
Independence . He visioned that :-
- Large supply of
food items for public consumption can alone fill their hungry
stomachs and kindle the thoughts of self development.
- This basic need
satisfaction, will cumulatively promote the working spirit of the
people for self sustainability.
- These
ultimately kindle the
spirit of Independence.
Gomathy Sankar knew that Mahathma Gandhi has adopted Goats Milk
in his Sarvodhaya diet. When Gandhi toured the South India and
visited Tirunelveli distrct in 1921, he stayed with Gomathy Sankar.
He served Gandhi with "Goat's Milk Pudding" (See
Recipe below), a recipe of his imagination, during the day
meal, and Gandhi later adopted this as regular day meal, during his
stay in the Shabarmathi (In Gujerat) Ashram later.
DISCOMBOBULATED VENTURES

In
1910, he sold his inherited agricultural land and opened a “Gomathy
Diary Farm” with 30 cows and a "Gomathy Textiles" with 3 Hand
looms supported by 15 Charkas (Hand Spinner) for the yarn supply.
He organised these as a "Challenge" to the British rule, rather than
a venture with long-range development and progress of the people or
the country. The significant Discombobulated (Emotionally
Confused) ingredients were :-
-
The
goal was to remove the British rule and domination.
It was a Movement concept and not
a Management concept.
-
The
management was impregnated with unreasonable
flexibility to accommodate
everybody's
like and dislikes, to keep and continue the movement. It resembled
the wheel of the Charka, which is
Bendable and
Wabbling and rotate at one point , to role the thread
from raw cotton.
He did
not progress well in the Textiles and ultimately he closed it in
1930. He bought and sold many cows in his business. He made a will
in favour of his 3 sons to share the Cows left over after his death,
in the following proportions :-
-
The First son who is a
Farmer in the village, and lived / cared for him, should get 1/2
of the total number of Cows.
-
The Second son who opted
to get a job and lived in the near-by Town, should get 1/3 of the
total number of Cows.
-
The Third son who went
abroad for earning, should get 1/9 of the total number of Cows.
ACHIEVEMENT WITHOUT MANAGEMENT
In 1951, just after
the Independence of India (15th August 1947), he died, and after the
formal mourning, the sons went to count the number of Cows left at
that point of time, and found the total number of Cows to be 17,
which is a prime number and cannot be shared by any of the three
proportions in their father's will. Each son felt that the
involvement of their father in the freedom struggle of Gandhi was
for an Achievement for the nation, without any Management and
foresight of the future of the nation. They expressed the following,
and started fighting with each other.
-
They
felt that they have an equal share in the father's wealth.
-
Participation in the freedom movement has impregnated the mind of
their father with the idea of discrimination of persons.
-
The
Swadeshi idea has inducted the people to think that the Nation is
their Self property (In Sanskrit Swa = (Swayam) Self. Deshi =
Nation). So they have the right make, destroy or do anything with
the nation for their self goals and needs.
-
He
turned into a lover of the nation than his own family and
pedigree.
-
He
attempted on the Farming and Textile ventures for the achievement
of the national freedom, without any idea of proper Management /
Productivity and future vision of his ventures.
-
His
will is a proof of his confused mind, skimmed out of the ill
formatted Swadeshi and other movements.
When
they were puzzled over the Cow sharing problem, an Old man and a
friend of their father said that he has 1 Cow, which he bought from
their father, a few years before. He suggested that he could add
that 1 Cow to the herd of 17 Cows, so that the sharing problem is
solved immediately.
But the sons refused this idea, because of the fact that they are
expected to share the total cows left over in the farm, and not to
share any additional Cows.
However, the Old man insisted that let them add his 1 Cow as a test
case and see what happens at the end. Accordingly they added the Cow
on a test basis, and the heard became 18.
A) First son - 1/2 of 18 = 9 Cows. B)
Second son - 1/3 of 18 = 6 Cows.
C) Third son - 1/9 of 18 = 2 Cows. D) Total
= 17 Cows.
The Old man took his 1 Cow and walked away. That 1 Cow was the
Catalyst which participated in the sharing problem of 17 Cows. It
was not shared, but played a Mathematical magic !!!

====================================
MORAL : Any
discombobulated movement and venture, whether it is to gain
Independence or to Share a personal wealth, will always end in
confusion and combat between people. This can be solved only by a
Mathematical magic. Dr.VSRS's concepts of Socio-Economic
Development (Swadeshi) is a Geometric (Mathematical) Model with a
Catalytic ingrediant.
====================================
BOTTOM DISCLAIMER
: If this joke resembles to the Post-independence scene of the
people and the elected members in the State/Central Government
in India (after the historic achievement of freedom by Mahathma
Gandhi), on the Centre & State relationship, Language issue,
Reservation based on Religion, Caste, Sex etc.. which are nothing
but Apartheid, River water sharing,
State border disputes etc..., I disclaim my intentions and my
ability to motivate any body to that level of imagination.

THEME RECIPE - DEVELOPMENT
GOAT'S
MILK PUDDING (Food for Fecundity & Freedom)
SOURCE :Old Employees of the Gomathy Diary Farm
The goat (Capra
Hircus), along with sheep, were among the earliest
domesticated animals. Goat remains have been found at archaeological
sites in western Asia, such as Cayonu, Choga, Djeitun, Jericho,
Mami, indicate the domestication of the goats could be dated
between 6000 and 7000 B.C. However, unlike sheep, their ancestry is
fairly clear. The major contributor of modern goats is the Bezoar
goat which is distributed from the mountains of Asia Minor across
the Middle East to Sind. Unlike sheep, goats easily revert to feral
(wild) condition given a chance. In fact, the only domestic species
which will return to a wild state as rapidly as a goat is the
domestic cat. Goat is a
vegetarian, and eats all leaves, including bitter, pungent,
thorny, sticky and all weeds not even touched by any other animal.
Goats have assisted in the
control of a wide range of weed species. These include
blackberry, bracken-fern, broom, gorse, manuka, , matagouri,
ragwort, rushes, sedges, sweet briar, tauhinu, thistles, tutu, and
woolly nightshade. Good weed control depends on more than goats
simply eating the plant. At times, they will browse to vary
their diet with little effect on the weed population. At the other
extreme, plants may only be grazed when goats are forced onto them
as a sole diet.
Goats do not touch or eat "Adhatoda
Zeylanica", a shrub {Arus in Sanskrit and Aadu Thoda
Ilai in Tamil (Aadu = Goat. Thoda = Untouch. Ilai = Leaf), and "Aristolochia
Bracteolata", a weed {Kitamari in Sanskrit and Aadu
Theendaa Paalai in Tamil (Aadu
= Goat. Thendaa = Untouch. Paalai = Weed}
Goat's milk is
very compatible with a healthy diet, and is suitable for persons
above 1 year of age. Goat milk is a good source of protein, and
provides for the nutritional requirements of a large number of
essential amino acids. Moreover it is rich in calcium and a number
of vitamins (A, D, B1, B2, B12). Goat milk contains appreciably
less folic acid than cow milk. This must be taken into consideration
when goat milk is the only dairy component in the diet. It can then
be necessary to supplement the nutritional requirement for folic
acid in another manner, like taking cow's milk. Pure goat milk, is
not suitable for babies. It contains too much of protein, too many
minerals, and too few vitamins to be able to satisfy the nutritional
requirements of infants.
INGREDIENTS
(Cup = Tea Cup. For 4 Servings)
Butter - 1 Table
Spoon,
Goat's
Milk -
½
Cup,
Nutmeg (Myristica Fragrans,

PREPARATION
(The heavy baking is to integrate the Goat's milk
thoroughly with other ingredients).
01. Butter the inside of a 2 Litre Baking Dish.
02. Mix the Goat's milk, Rice, Salt and Sugar in the Buttered
Baking Dish.
03.
Bake
in slow oven ( 300 Deg.F ) for one hour. Stir occasionally.
04. Add Nutmeg and Raisins.
05. Bake for another 1¾
hours in the slow oven. ( 300 Deg.F ).
06. Serve hot in the centre of a Banana Leaf with
the sharp Tip of the Leaf - To left hand side of
the Guest as per the picture in the right.
(Clean the leaf with water before use).
07. Eating by the Right palm is preferred.
However a Table spoon could be used.
NOTE ON BANANA LEAF : Eating on Banana (Musa Paradisiaca)
leaf is
economy, convenience, hygiene and tradition.
Food served in traditional Banana Leaf had always been delicious,
mouth-watering and not to mention an all time favorite for
food-lovers. The chlorophyll on the surface of the leaf adds the
effect of Magnesium to the body {The biological format of
Human Blood and
Chlorophyll are
exactly the same. The binding element in Chlorophyll is Magnesium
(Mg-12), while in Blood it is Iron (Fe-26)}.
Magnesium is an essential
mineral to the human body. It is needed for bone, protein, and fatty
acid formation, making new cells, activating B vitamins, relaxing
muscles, clotting blood, and forming adenosine tri-phosphate (a
major source of energy for cellular reactions. The secretion and
action of insulin, needed to control the sugar on the body also
require Magnesium. The surface of the Banana Leaf adds certain
Enzymes, to accelerate the digestion of the food, when comes in
contact with the hot food served on the surface. It is Eco friendly
too.
=================================================
MORAL : Goat is a vegetarian, and eats all leaves, including
bitter, pungent, thorny, sticky and all those not even touched by
any other animal. It is because of its Tongue Tolerance &
intensive digestive capacity of any matter by its intestines. Hence,
the Goat's could induct a determination to consume all the
difficulties in a fight to achieve the Freedom of the Mind and the
Nation.
